Advertising Mail Light is a Mailsort® 3 service and can be used with Mailsort® 70 (CBC or OCR), Mailsort 120 (CBC or OCR), Mailsort® 700 CBC, Mailsort® 1400 OCR or Advertising Mail 3 service and can be used with Advertising Mail 70 (CBC or OCR), Advertising Mail 120 (CBC or OCR) or Advertising Mail 1400 OCR. Your items must be readable by our sorting machines and you need to have a total campaign mailing of over 40,000 items.

Product instructions

Because you′re using the same addresses as your main mailing and sorting and addressing the items in the same way, we′ll give you a credit for every 1,000 items you send. You can claim your credit up to six months after completion of your campaign.

You can send a postcard or envelope weighing up to 15g to all or part of your main mailing list. Please note that you can′t send more Advertising Mail Light items than the number of items in your main mailing and you can′t use Advertising Mail Light to send items that don′t relate to an advertising campaign, such as transactional mail, e.g. bills or statements.

  • How does it work?

    As part of an advertising campaign, customers send a lightweight reminder or teaser mailing with Mailsort® 3 70 (CBC or OCR), Mailsort® 3 120 (CBC or OCR), Mailsort® 3 700 CBC, Mailsort® 3 1400 OCR, Advertising Mail 3 70 (CBC or OCR), Advertising Mail 3 120 (CBC or OCR), Advertising Mail 3 1400 OCR and receive a retrospective credit in addition to the normal Mailsort® 3 or Advertising Mail 3 discount.

  • What are the minimum mailing volumes?

    The whole campaign must total at least 40,000 items. The number of light stage items can′t exceed the number in the main stage.
    The lightweight stage is subject to the usual Mailsort® or Advertising Mail minimum mailing volumes of at least 20,000 letters for Mailsortt® or Advertising Mail 70 (CBC or OCR) and 10,000 items for Mailsortt® 700 CBC, 4,000 letters (or 2,000 letters for delivery within the same Postcode Area in which they were posted) for Mailsortt® or Advertising Mail 1400 OCR and Mailsortt® or Advertising Mail 120 (CBC or OCR).

    Envelope size: maximum C5 Plus (240mm x 165mm), minimum 140mm x 90mm
    Item weight: maximum 15g
    Item thickness: maximum 5mm, minimum 0.25mm

  • What are the design restrictions?

    Mailsort® CBC or Advertising Mail CBC
    If Mailsort® or Advertising Mail 70, Mailsort® or Advertising Mail 120 CBC or Mailsort® 700 CBC is used for the lightweight stage, the customer must have passed the Quality Assurance Process before carrying out the mailing.
    The address and barcode must be in the prescribed area on the front of the envelope with 2mm of clear space around the barcode.
    The print quality and contrast between the barcode and the paper should be such that our sorting machines can read it.
    Mailsort® OCR or Advertising Mail OCR
    If Mailsort® or Advertising Mail 70 OCR, Mailsort® or Advertising Mail 120 OCR or Mailsort® or Advertising Mail 1400 OCR is used for the lightweight stage, the item needs to be machineable and follow the OCR guidelines.

  • What other restrictions are there?

    The lightweight stage must be mailed to the same people as the main stage (either in total or in part), can′t exceed the number in the main stage, and must clearly be linked as part of a single advertising campaign. The whole mailing campaign must take place within a six month period. Your light mailing needs to be directly linked to your main mailing, i.e. the light stage mail piece must make direct reference to the main mail piece, bear the same branding and relate to the same customer offer.

  • Is Sustainable® Mail available with Advertising Mail Light?

    Sustainable® Mail is not available for the light stage of a Advertising Mail Light campaign. However, Sustainable® Mail can be used for the main stage of a Advertising Mail Light campaign.

  • What is Advertising Mail?

    Advertising Mail is a communication which (a) consists solely of advertising, marketing or publicity material comprising an identical message to all recipients of the Advertsing Mail Light mailing in which it is sent; and (b) is eligible to pay the ASBoF levy.
    For the avoidance of doubt, an invoice, a bill or a financial statement is not an Advertising Mail item. A communication combining Advertising Mail with other items within the same wrapping is not an Advertising Mail item.

  • Do you collect the mail from us?

    We will collect your mailings free of charge, or you can arrange to deliver to your local Distribution Centre.

  • How much notice do you need?

    Two working days′ notice. You must produce a Computer Planning Report and Line Listing (both generated by your Mailsort® sortation software) and a completed posting cheque to be handed over when, or before, your mailing is presented.

  • How should we sort and mark the mail?

    At least 90% of items in a mailing must be fully addressed and accurately postcoded. All items must be facing in the same direction and sorted and bundled according to the Mailsort® Database, and should also be of similar size and weight (ask your Account Manager for details of exceptions). Mailings should be in bags, and shouldn′t contain mailings for any of our other products or services. A customer collection receipt and cage card will be required.

  • What is the Advertising Mail Light credit value?

    In addition to the usual discounts for Mailsort® or Advertising Mail 3 70, Mailsort® or Advertising Mail 3 120, Mailsort® 3 700 and Mailsort® or Advertising Mail 3 1400, you will receive a retrospective postal credit for each lightweight item mailed.
